Opposing NFC East offenses are holding a moment of silence this afternoon after the Philadelphia Eagles finally released safety Patrick Chung.
The Eagles Twitter account confirmed the news.
#Eagles have released S Patrick Chung.
For a small window a few seasons, Chung was thought to be coming into his own as a defender and looked poised to break out as a member of the New England Patriots.
New England wasn’t open to paying his overpriced salary demands however and with the Eagles reeling in their secondary, they took a chance on Chung.
His lone season in the City of Brotherly Love was nothing horrible as he’s struggled heavily for the Eagles, who finally decided it was time to give him his walking papers.
Chung routinely found himself not only getting blown out in coverage, but would at times simply cover the wrong man – or famously – tackle his own teammate (an accident, of course).
The release of Chung (while it clears salary) is not expected to be a different maker in any pursuit of Jairus Byrd.
