The Cleveland Browns are one team that’s had their name thrown into the hat for a lot of players this free agency period, but according to Ian Rapoport, they’re close to signing 49ers defensive back Donte Whitner to a deal that would be worth in the area of $7 million per season for four years.
When the #Browns reach a deal with Donte Whitner, I’m told it’s expected to be four years for an average of $7M per year.

As it becomes more and more clear that T.J. Ward won’t be returning to the team, the move to sign Whitner makes perfect sense.
As early as Tuesday morning, NFL.com reported that the move was very close to happening and now with a contract number out there, it should only be a matter of time before this gets done and the paper is signed.
Set to turn 29 this summer, the Browns would be getting one of the best safeties in the NFL right as he’s hitting the prime of his career and would add validity to a defense that, quite frankly, wasn’t all that bad in 2013.
