Steelers free agency news: Mike Mitchell signs with Pittsburgh

Carolina Panthers free agent safety Mike Mitchell was receiving plenty of interest early in the free agent negotiation period when teams ranging from the Denver Broncos to New York Jets to Philadelphia Eagles were all rumored to have slight interest.

However, the market opened on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET and Mitchell did not sign with any of the previously named teams.

Instead, Mitchell has reportedly decided that he will be signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The news comes from Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

An official announcement could be coming soon.

UPDATE: Mitchell is officially the newest member of the Pittsburgh Steelers defense.
