2014 ACC Tournament: Miami holds off Virginia Tech to advance to second round, 57-53

In the second game of the 2014 ACC Tournament on Wednesday as things get underway, the Miami Hurricanes were able to hold off the Virginia Tech Hokies in a rather low-scoring affair in Greensboro, 57-53.

Down the stretch in this one, the Hokies had their opportunities to extend their season a bit longer, but they couldn’t make the necessary free throws that they were afforded and the ‘Canes will now be moving on to the second round of action.

Erik Swoope led the way for Miami in this one, nearly walking away with the double-double with 14 points and eight rebounds. Rion Brown was the leading scorer in the winning effort, finishing up with 15 points and adding in five rebounds.

With the win, the ‘Canes now advance to take on the N.C. State Wolfpack tomorrow night at 7 PM to see who keeps on playing in one of the most coveted conference tournaments of the postseason.

Virginia Tech ends their season at an abysmal 9-22 overall.
