Atlanta Braves sign Ervin Santana to one-year deal

After flirting heavily with the idea of signing Ervin Santana on Wednesday morning, the Atlanta Braves have gone ahead and sealed the deal. According to Braves beat writer Mark Bowman, Atlanta has handed the starter a one-year deal that will finally take him off the market and get him to a clubhouse.

The deal is hardly what Santana was looking for, but it’s what he’s going to have to settle for. While Matt Garza helped set the market with his deal in Milwaukee, guys like Ubaldo Jiminez were able to find homes before Santata could and that had a lot to do with his asking price.

A long-term deal has eluded Santana, but his one-year deal in Atlanta may give him the platform to shine and earn said long-term contract in the 2015 offseason.
