Lionel Messi named ambassador for Youth Olympic Games

The third edition of the Youth Olympic Games will be coming to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2018, so the nation has called on one of their top stars to help promote the event and get the community excited about what is to come.

Messi has been named an ambassador for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympics and his ability to inspire kids as a role model was a big factor in earning the role.

“He is an idol the world over, an example for people to follow and the perfect professional,” Buenos Aires mayor Mauricio Macri said, according to FIFA. ”He is a wonderful role model that youngsters can look up to and take inspiration from.”

During his own Olympic experience in 2008, Messi earned a gold medal as part of the Argentina men’s soccer team.
