After a rather shocking turn of events, left tackle Rodger Saffold is on his way back to the St. Louis Rams after failing his physical with the Oakland Raiders and will be signing a five-year deal with his former team. It’s hard to call the Rams a former team of Saffold’s as he was only a Raider for the briefest of moments before being jettisoned back to Missouri.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Rams will benefit from this as they’ll retain their left tackle for the foreseeable future, but the events surrounding his return to the Rams are perhaps the most bizarre we’ve seen in any free agency period as of late.

Oakland apparently had questions and doubts about the shoulder of Saffold and that appears to what tripped up his physical with the Raiders. The Rams are now on the hook for his salary but they’re filling a position of need and Saffold at least has a home after a rather embarrassing turn of events.
