The Kansas City Royals badly want to be a team that finally breaks through and becomes a legitimate playoff contender. They crept closer to that goal last year after an especially aggressive off-season trade to add ace James Shields to the mix.
With a solid rotation and arguably the best bullpen in baseball, they just need to find enough offense. There is a short list of proven offensive talent on their roster, one that arguably starts and ends with Billy Butler. As such the Royals need young guns like Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer to show consistency at the big league level in the worst way.
They have to happy with what they saw from Hosmer on Thursday, as he launched a solo home run.
And an opposite field shot, no less. The pressure will be on Hosmer to deliver when the regular season rolls around.
