Arizona State starting wide receiver Richard Smith to transfer

The Arizona State Sun Devils announced this week that starting wide receiver Richard Smith has been released from his scholarship and plans to transfer to another program.

While it is too soon to know where Smith will land, it appears Boise State could be a potential destination. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound receiver sent out a tweet Thursday saying he’ll be visiting the Broncos this weekend:

Smith, who will be a junior next season, caught 32 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns in 2013. He made some costly errors in ASU’s loss to Notre Dame, but he redeemed himself a few weeks later by pulling in the game-winning touchdown against the Utah Utes.
