Chael Sonnen vs Wanderlei Silva bout still not signed

The highly anticipated bout between TUF Brazil 3 coaches and bitter rivals, Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva, has still not been signed according to UFC president, Dana White.

At yesterday’s UFC 171 media scrum, White had this to say regarding the bout:

No, it’s not done yet. I gotta get that done this week too.

The bout has already been announced by the UFC for their main event for an unknown card in Brazil on May 31st, but it seems that it is in some danger of not happening.

Once TRT was banned from the sport, it was evident that there would likely be some issues regarding this bout due to the insufficient time frame for Sonnen to become acclimated to training and fighting without TRT. For the very same reason, Vitor Belfort was forced to withdraw from his UFC 173 title bout against Chris Weidman that was scheduled only a week prior to Sonnen’s bout with Wanderlei. If Belfort was unable to fight, why would Sonnen be able to?

Dana White was not worried about possible speculation, saying that the bout will be finalized. If this bout ultimately does not come to fruition for any number of reasons, the UFC will have spent a lot of time and money building up this rivalry for nothing.

Earlier this week, former StrikeForce Middleweight champion, Cung Le, offered his services if Sonnen is unable to fight. We will keep you updated when any new information is made available.
