Lamar Odom returns to U.S. with injured back

Lamar Odom’s comeback in Spain might be ending prematurely.

The former NBA sixth man of the year has injured his back. Odom has received permission to return the the United States for treatment. From ESPN.com:

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com on Friday that Odom is expected to miss at least a month because of the persistent back issue, which prompted his new Spanish team to allow Odom to return to the United States this week for further evaluation and treatment.

Because Odom only signed a two-month contract with Laboral Kutxa Baskonia, sources said, it is still being determined whether he will return to the club before the end of the Spanish season.

I would be surprised if Odom returned to the team. They have an option to extend his contract for the rest of the season, but with this injury, I expect him to stay in the U.S. He only played in two games logging 23 minutes.

It’s a shame too because he really could have used this to get things together.
