Miami Marlins utility man Jeff Baker is expected to return to the Marlins line up during today’s game against the New York Mets at 7:05 pm. Furcal is expected to return on Saturday against the Washington Nationals, that game starts at 1:05 pm.
Both Rafael Furcal and Jeff Baker left Monday’s game after suffering injuries. Baker was diagnosed with a strain quadriceps while Furcal tweaked his left hamstring. Both veteran infielders are entering their first year with the Marlins ball club and are looking to make an impact.
As of right now, Jeff Baker is hitting .313/.421/.375 across the line, while Furcal is hitting a weak .125/.125/.250 through 16 at bats this Spring.
According to Jeff Frisaro of MLBlogs.com, Baker will be starting at first base for the Marlins and will bat third in the line up ahead of Jarrod Saltalamacchia. As a Chicago Cubs fan, I’m hoping that both Jeff Baker and Reed Johnson make the Opening Day roster and are able to help this team win some games.
