Marvel’s Captain America 3 and DC Comic’s currently untitled Batman vs. Superman will go head-to-head in a Box Office Showdown in 2016.

This is certainly going to be a battle for the ages. Back at the beginning of February, we pointed out that there was a date on Marvel’s calendar that had not been paired with the release of any particular film. This was a very special date, indeed. This date was the same date that Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ follow up to 2013’s Man of Steel, the currently untitled Batman vs. Superman film.

There was a lot of speculation as to what that film may have been. I mean, Marvel does have quite a few films on the table right now that are just waiting for release dates. There have been talks about a Doctor Strange or a Black Panther film. There were also talks of the date being attached to a currently unannounced sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy.

However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, we now know that the film that will duke it out with the Batman vs. Superman combo will be Captain America 3.

At this point, there has been no official confirmation from Marvel on the matter, but according to THR’s sources are certain that this will be the film to battle it out with DC’s Batman vs. Superman.

The date was originally claimed by Marvel, but the DC film was pushed back an entire year, and happened to land on this date, but it doesn’t look like Marvel is backing down from the challenge. Now, as is with the nature of the entertainment industry, things may come up in the production of the film that may cause delays, but at least for now, we can get ready for a knockdown, drag out fight.

As of late, Marvel seems to have been owning the Box Office while DC has been capitalizing more in the television market; however, this is a bold move by DC and Warner Bros. who knew ahead of time that Marvel was occupying this date. Is this a flat out challenge? That remains to be seen. Now that the word has gotten out which film they will be going against, there is always the possibility of a date change, but we will have to wait and see who makes the first move.

Do you think DC will change the date of Batman vs. Superman now that word has gotten out which film they will be up against, or do you think they will hold firm in their decision? Which of these two blockbuster films do you think will come out on top? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Marvel’s Captain America 3 and DC’s Batman vs. Superman are currently scheduled to be released on May 6, 2016.
