North Carolina State announced Friday that the NCAA has granted safety Jarvis Byrd a sixth year of eligibility.
Byrd’s collegiate career has been plagued by injury problems. He fought his way into the starting job during the 2009 season, but he tore his ACL against the North Carolina Tar Heels and subsequently missed all of the 2010 season rehabbing his knee. Byrd was projected to be a starter for the Wolfpack in 2011, but he suffered another ACL tear — this time during summer workouts — and was forced to miss the entire 2011 campaign. Byrd’s 2013 was similarly cut short, as he suffered a season-ending ACL injury in the fifth game of the season.
We wish Byrd a healthy 2014.
