Manny Machado suffers minor setback in rehab

Manny Machado is working hard to be ready for Opening Day for the Baltimore Orioles after his 2013 season ended due to a knee injury. To this point the news about his progress has been good, but it sounds like the young third baseman suffered a minor setback this week.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that Machado has stopped running for the time being.

Connolly also notes that Machado will have to be re-evaluated by his doctor before getting cleared for game action, something that won’t happen until next week.

It does not sound like the Orioles are overly concerned about this development because it is a normal occurrence for such injuries. If they are playing the long game with Machado, a franchise player, they will likely consider pushing his season debut back from Opening Day. As long as he ends up back and healthy for the majority of the season, that outcome is probably something with which the Orioles are perfectly comfortable.
