MLB Rumors: Detroit Tigers interested in Stephen Drew?

Infielder Stephen Drew says he regrets not signing the one-year, $14.1 million dollar qualifying offer presented to him by the Boston Red Sox this past offseason.

Now Drew sits without a home as teams prepare for their final few weeks of Spring Training action.

The shortstop needs a home and he knows it – he just seems to be waiting for the most opportune time to pounce on the perfect situation. That may come from the Detroit Tigers, who are likely to be without starting shortstop Jose Iglesias for the foreseeable future.

Peter Gammons suggests there could be more than just rumors in regards to Drew potentially ending up with the Tigers.

I would not bet against rumor sending Stephen Drew to Tigers

Given the time frame, the Tigers would be forced to forfeit draft pick compensation to the Red Sox to sign Drew, though they may not mind if the price is right.

Drew can wait until the June Amateur draft to sign if he so inclined, as the draft pick compensation will expire at that time, opening up his potential options.
