NFL Free Agency 2014: Cleveland Browns sign Ben Tate

After visiting almost two days with the Cleveland Browns, fee agent running back Ben Tate has decided he’s not going to be leaving town. Pending a physical, the former Houston Texans back will be signing a deal with the Browns to become their new feature back.

Per Mary Kay Cabot from the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

The Browns are expected to sign free agent running back Ben Tate on Saturday, according to a report.

Tate, who’s been in Cleveland since Thursday night, should be under contract today as long he passes his physical, John Telich of Fox 8 News tweeted Saturday morning.

The next question Browns fans will have is if Tate can carry an offense on his own. The only action he’s ever seen has been in the shadow of Arian Foster in Houston, but we’ve seen running backs emerge from the shadow of big backs before, like Michael Turner and Toby Gerhart.

The hope for the Brown is that Tate will be the next in that line of players, as they need a ground game to match whatever sort of passing attack they plan on having in 2014.
