The Washington Redskins are in need of a safety – though the available options aren’t exactly the most sexy. That’s why it’s possible the Redskins may opt to re-sign Brandon Meriweather, this according to ESPN’s John Keim.
From what I’ve heard they did not view certain safeties, such as Miami’s Chris Clemons, as better than what they had a year ago with Brandon Meriweather (and only a slight upgrade over Reed Doughty). I wouldn’t be surprised if one or both of those players returned. Doughty would not be brought back to start. I also think there’s a split opinion of him in the building.
Meriweather isn’t a slouch by any stretch, though, he’s not exactly much more than another ‘guy’ on defense. That is, when he’s playing, given he’s been suspended multiple times over the past year for his illegal hits that have seemingly put a target on his back by the NFL’s league office.
There’s no mention of any potential financials if the two sides were to come to an agreement at this point.
