With the 2014 NCAA Tournament field set, that means that there were some teams that are on the outside looking in at the national championship. However, although they won’t be int he filed of 68, that doesn’t mean their season is over as they’ll be headed to the 2014 NIT Tournament.
The four top seeds this year are all teams that probably could have made a competitive run at the national title, but they just couldn’t get enough done during the regular season.
The SMU Mustangs, St John’s Red Storm, Minnesota Golden Gophers and Florida State Seminoles are your teams that drew the top seeds in the NIT this season.

This is actually a good pairing of teams in the tournament this season. Again, virtually all of these programs involved had some shining moments this year at one time or another.
