Poor Deron Williams.
The former All-Star point guard has had a rough go of it since joining the Nets – most of that due to continued ankle injuries.
But it appears Williams is finally healthy and ready for a possible playoff birth with the Nets. Of course, while his ankles might be feeling well I’m going to guess his ego is a bit bruised this morning.
In addition to suffering a loss against the Washington Wizards on Saturday night, Williams took one on the chin personally as he was denied emphatically by the rim on a dunk attempt.
With Brooklyn nursing a nine-point lead early in the third quarter, Williams took an in-bounds pass and streaked towards the basket. Shockingly (or not shockingly, given the Wizards) there were no defenders in his way so Williams hit the burners and made a b-line towards the hoop.
He could have opted for the sneak-attack layup, but Williams wanted to make his presence known. The point guard rose up and bam – stuffed by the rim. Even worse? The force sent Williams tumbling to the ground. Certainly one of the more embarrassing moments of his career.
