Joe Dumars expected to resign as Detroit Pistons president at season end?

The tenure of Joe Dumars atop the Detroit Pistons franchise is expected to come to an end as Dumars is expected to resign from the position at season end, this according to the Boston Globe.

The Pistons are headed for major changes after this season and it could start with team president Joe Dumars, who is expected to resign. Dumars staked his reputation on the Maurice Cheeks coaching hire, which did not work out, and owner Tom Gores is expected to start fresh by hiring a new general manager and then potentially a coach to replace interim coach John Loyer.

Dumars, who joined the Pistons front office in 2000-2001 won the 2003 NBA Executive of the Year award and helped construct the team who won the 2004 NBA Championship. That said, his success was marred with mistakes in both free agency and the draft.

Dumars signed multiple sub-par players to hefty contracts (Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva) and drafted Darko Milicic during the 2003 NBA Draft, passing on players like Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.
