NFL Free Agency Rumors: Steelers to meet with Lance Moore, James Starks

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have lost a wide receiver in Emmanuel Sanders, but they may be gaining an interesting weapon in Lance Moore. According to Jason La Canfora, the former New Orleans Saints receiver will be in Pittsburgh to visit with the Steelers and could end up joining the team before the week is out.

Starks coming in is interesting as well, but neither players are game changers for the Steelers. Moore historically plays better indoors and the Steelers are known for their brutal environment.

Still, if the Steelers are looking for a sneaky slot threat, Moore comes out of a great system with Drew Brees and may help that dink-and-dunk game work out better and better for Ben Roethlisberger.

Neither player makes the Steelers instant contenders, but bit players like Moore and Starks can’t hurt to at least kick the tires on.

Moore is better than the highly overrated Sanders. That said, he does seem to have a reputation for being better on turf than grass. How much of that reputation is legit is to be determined. Sanders has a reputation for being explosive even though we Steeler fans know he is anything but that…

I would love to sign Moore as he is better than all but Brown on our roster (and better than Sanders). If we get him cheaply (less than Sanders deal) he would be a great signing. At Sanders money he becomes decent signing and anything more and we’ve over-paid.

My eyeball test in watching many games is that Moore has better wheels than Sanders and can make more plays, but hopefully the Steelers scouts and GM determine if the cost and ability on grass fields is worthwhile investment.

I hope the Packers can keep Starks. I thought he had a really good season this past year.
