There are not words for what is about to happen, but we are going to try anyway. As I said before, there is no way that this was going to end well for Lizzie. Unfortunately, this kind of spilled over to everyone else.
When Tyreese and Carol return to the house from their outing, they find Lizzie with a knife in her hands and blood all over her hands. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, I hope you are sitting down. Lizzie is standing over the very dead body of her sister Mika. She tells Carol and Tyreese that she will come back, and that they will finally understand; they will finally see. All they have to do is wait.
Carol talks Lizzie down and gets the gun away from her. Carol tells Lizzie that she can Tyreese should take Judith inside and that she will take care of Mika. Lizzie tries to tell her that Judith can change too, but Carol convinces her that she is too small.
I think this is hitting Carol the hardest. This has to bring back memories of what happened to Sophia. Even worse is what she is going to have to do next.
Carol and Tyreese discuss what they are going to do next, but there is really nothing that can be done in this type of situation. Carol offers to leave with her, but it is quite obvious that they won’t make it on their own. This is one of those impossible decisions, one that a normal person hopes to never have to make, but Carol made it.
She takes Lizzie out for a walk, and tells her that they should go pick some flowers for Mika for when she comes back. Carol continues to talk with her like there is nothing wrong, but it is hard for her to hide the pain.
Lizzie apologizes to Carol for pointing her gun at her. She tells her that she just needed her to wait. Carol tells Lizzie to just look at the flowers, just like Mika told her earlier. While Lizzie looks at the flowers and cries, Carol pulls out her gun and shoots Lizzie in the back of the head.
Tyreese is looking on from inside the house. He is clearly as upset as Carol is. Carol buries the two of them outside. I can’t imagine the pain she is in right now.
Later in the night, Carol and Tyreese are sitting across from each other at the table. She slides the gun across the able as she confesses to Tyreese that she is the one who killed Karen and David at the prison. She said that she had to stop the sickness from spreading. Tyreese clearly has issues processing everything.
Carol tells him that he can do what he needs to do. For a split second it looks like Tyreese contemplated shooting her. He asks her if their deaths were quick. Carol tells him they were. He reaches for the gun and holds it tightly in his hand. She tells him once again to do what he has to do.
Slowly, he takes his hand off of the gun and tells her that he forgives her. He says that he will never forget that it happened and that she did it; however, he forgives her.
After one last night, they pack everything up and leave the house and all of the horrible memories behind.
It has been a while since we have had an episode of The Walking Dead this difficult to bear. However, we all knew that it was going to get worse before it got better.
