Athletics’ Jarrod Parker to undergo Tommy John surgery

One down, two to go.

Jane Lee of MLB.com announced Monday that Jarrod Parker will need to undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career. Parker was one of the three pitchers, along with the Braves’ Brandon Beachy and Kris Medlen, who had an appointment with Dr. James Andrews on Monday to get an official recommendation as to how to fix their injuries. Instead of being out just for the start of the season, Parker will not pitch in 2014.

The 25-year old, who had been projected to be the Athletics’ Opening Day starter, had Tommy John surgery prior to 2010, while in the Diamondbacks system.

Sonny Gray will now start the 2014 season for Oakland.
