The Atlanta Braves received the bad news that they were expecting in regards to Kris Medlen‘s elbow injury on Monday.
The 28-year-old starting pitcher will undergo the second Tommy John operation of his short career this week.

Arm injuries have limited Medlen to only 62 career starts, despite careful handling by the Braves to manage his workload. He was nothing short of dominant in 2012, going 10-1 with a 1.57 ERA. Prior to his injury this spring he was in line to head the Atlanta rotation and start opening day.
The Braves now face the possibility of entering this season without Medlen and Brandon Beachy, meaning that their typically stellar organizational depth will be put to the test.
