Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi notched a hat-trick this weekend against Osasuna in a dominant 7-0 win. Those three goals moved him past Paulino Alcantara as the club’s all-time leading scorer with 372 goals in all competitions, including friendlies. Alcantara’s mark was 369 goals.
Messi is still just 26 years old and has a lot of time left in his career, just one year removed from his fourth consecutive Ballon d’Or trophy. He plans to play out the remainder of his career with Barcelona too, and has no plans to play for any other club.
“I intend to retire here at Barcelona,” Messi told Fox Deportes, via Sky Sports. “As long as people want me, I will stay, I am happy here.”
“I am very proud at being in the history of such an important and big club. When you are close to reaching that number of goals, it’s logical that you want to get there.
“The important thing is that this team keeps on making history, this group has been doing wonderful things, winning everything, and deserves to keep on doing important things.”
