The Arizona Diamondbacks seemingly can’t quit Chicago Cubs staff ace Jeff Samardzija.
The two teams engaged in trade talks for the pitcher last season (and reportedly during the offseason as well) but the Diamondback’s simply wouldn’t put forth the price the Cubs wanted.
Now with a better team (and a team ready to compete for the National League West crown) after a solid offseason, the Diamondbacks may be inclined to reignite the trade talks – this according to Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM and 670thescore.com.
Arizona will look for a top starter. Samardzija talks may be revisited. Story
The Cubs don’t need to rush to trade Samardzija given he’s still under team control for the next two seasons, but the longer they retain the pitcher the less his value becomes.
Arizona meanwhile may be looking to rekindle the talks given the recent injury to starter Patrick Corbin, who is expected to miss significant time.
Chicago and Samardzija have attempted to work out an extension in recent months but the two sides have been unable to find a middle ground.
