Spring Training is a time of oddities – odd injuries and odd plays.

We’ve already seen odd injuries (like players stepping in cactus) and now it’s time for the odd play.

Here we have Prince Fielder of the Texas Rangers.

With the standard defensive shift in place, Fielder hit a ground ball to the third baseman (though playing more of a shortstop position) who swung the ball to second base. Everything looked normal so far, but that’s when things started to get strange.

As Avisail Garcia went to turn the double play with a throw to first base, the throw caught the hand of Chicago White Sox runner Josh Wilson. The ball bounced high into the air after clubbing Wilson’s hand yet shockingly stayed in line with the throw and made it’s way into the glove of Chicago’s first baseman – shockingly completing the double play.

I’ve seen a lot of strange double plays, but that might top the list – at least in regards to the ball hitting the runner.
