What may come off as a laughing matter at first was far more serious on Monday afternoon when Major League Baseball umpire Brad Myers was hit in the groin region by a line drive off the bat of Cincinnati Reds infielder Brandon Phillips.
With runners on first and second base in the bottom of the second inning, Phillips smoked a rocket up the middle striking Myers in the not so sunny region.
Clearly hurt, Myers laid on the field for nearly ten minutes as trainers from both the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians rushed to his aid.
Thankfully Myers was able to get up and walk over to the training cart and was taken to a local hospital for further examination, though, it looks like he avoided serious injury thankfully – tipping his cap to the crowd as he left the field of play.
Replay official John Tumpane replaced Myers for the remaining innings.
