MLB Rumors: Philadelphia Phillies feel they have to trade Jimmy Rollins?

The Philadelphia Phillies have a storm brewing with longtime shortstop and former National League MVP Jimmy Rollins. There is reportedly friction between Rollins and new manager Ryne Sandberg, and it sounds like some within the organization might feel that the damage is beyond repair.

Buster Olney of ESPN passes along the following tidbits.

It has been rumored so far that Rollins would not be willing to waive that no-trade clause, but that is certainly subject to change as the situation devolves and as more potential suitors emerge. A change in his feelings certainly might be accelerated by the fact that the coaches and now apparently those in the front office are openly discussing the fact that they don’t want him around anymore.

Dealing a face of the franchise is a risky road to travel, especially when that process is instigated by a new manager. The control ultimately lies with Rollins, so the Phillies might want to consider playing nice to avoid having this situation bite them in a big way.

It won’t bit them in any way. Rollins is a lazy sack of bleep who is a cancer in the clubhouse and his .252 average is not worth the aggravation.
