Seattle Sounders midfielder Clint Dempsey appeared to give Tornoto’s Mark Bloom a hit in the groin section during their game on Saturday. Dempsey was walking away when he swung his arm behind him hitting Bloom who grabbed his groin and dropped to the turf, but no foul was called.
Demspey said after the game that he was trying to hit Bloom’s hand off his back and wasn’t aiming for that area.
“I tried to hit it away and thought I was hitting his hand away,” Dempsey said, via ESPN. “I understand that maybe I did catch him a little bit. I apologized to him about that, but for me, all I was trying to do was smack his hand from touching my back.”
That swipe has resulted in a two-game suspension for Dempsey according to Kurtis Larson of the Toronto Sun.
