We’re just weeks away from the return of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, but the fun may not be exclusive to the series. While author George R.R. Martin says the series is catching up to his books, he is envisioning a grand plan for his stories that involve the big screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin says that multiple Game of Thrones are possible in the future as the series winds down.
“It all depends on how long the main series runs,” Martin told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday following the Season 4 premiere of the hit HBO series in New York. “Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know.”
It would be ironic if one of the television series killing cinema takes the leap to the theater, but it’s not impossible. The show is already cinematic and moving it to the theater will only make it more epic, if it ever actually happens.
