Diamondbacks personnel were recently seen scouting members of the New York Mets – a team desperate for a shortstop.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are making Didi Gregorius, not fellow shortstop Chris Owings, available in trade discussions with other teams, an industry source told ESPNNewYork.com.
Owings was thought to potentially be available as well, though he has outplayed Gregorius through the first few weeks of Spring Training and appears to have solidified his spot as the Diamondbacks starting shortstop leaving Gregorius the odd-man out.
There’s not a lot of reason for Arizona to send Gregorius back to the minor leagues as he serves little purpose there, other than for organizational depth, and if he can help them acquire a starting pitcher it would be a move they’d need to consider.
Arizona of course lost starter Patrick Corbin to a season-ending UCL injury earlier this month.
