Want to be a walking billboard? You’ll likely have your chance in the next five years as NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stated today that corporate logos and advertisements appearing on NBA uniforms is all but ‘inevitable’.
New NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said placing corporate logos on player jerseys is “inevitable” — and will probably happen within the next five years.
“I think it’s inevitable,” said Mr. Silver at the 2014 IMG World Congress of Sports presented by SportsBusiness Daily/Journal.
Silver went on to say that he believes advertisements will appear on the uniforms within five years, but then backtracked to suggest that he sees the situation as ‘most likely’.
Regardless, it appears the NBA will be going the way of the WNBA and including uniforms on their threads.
In doing so, they’d become the first of the four major American sports to allow such during game activity. Both the NFL and NBA have allowed practice uniforms to carry sponsorship before while Major League Baseball has stayed more traditional – though that may eventually change down the road as well depending on the NBA’s success with such.
