Athletics’ place Jarrod Parker on 60-day disabled list

Oakland Athletics right handed pitcher Jarrod Parker will be undergoing his second Tommy John surgery on Monday. It’s tough to see a young man with talent, have to go through something like that again according to Jane Lee on Twitter.

I posted on March 14th that Parker and teammate A.J. Griffin would likely start out of the year on the disabled list. Griffin will be back sometime this season for the Athletics, but Parker is guaranteed to miss the entire season. This is tough blow to this Athletics rotation which could possibly put them in play for Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija.

Not confirming that it’s a move that they will try to pursue, but it wouldn’t be that bad of an idea. Samardzija’s name has been tossed around the rumor mill for sometime now and things are start to heat up as Opening Day approaches.

Oakland also claimed outfielder Kent Matthes from the Colorado Rockies as an additional roster move.
