Danny Valencia hit in hand, leaves Royals game

In the bottom of the sixth inning as the Los Angeles Angels took on the Kansas City Royals, Jered Weaver came inside on Danny Valencia and hit him.

Kansas City Star’s Andy McCullough reported that the pitch caught Valencia on the left hand and wrist area. Valencia was lifted for a pinch runner as he left the field in what appeared to be serious pain.

Danny Valencia was traded to the Royals by the Orioles in exchange for outfielder David Lough. He is competing for a spot on the Royals bench, having played defensively only at second base. Second base is currently occupied by Omar Infante, although Infante is currently recovering from an elbow injury for which he received a cortisone injection. Last year, with the Orioles, Valencia played in 52 games, hitting .304/.335/.553 with 8 homers and 23 RBI.
