There is some good news on the horizon for moviegoers who enjoy a larger than life experience when they head out to theaters to see their favorite films. Disney and IMAX announced today that they have extended their long standing relationship and that some of Disney’s new and upcoming titles will be released in IMAX format.
One of the most exciting of those is Star Wars: Episode VII. The Star Wars films have always had a larger than life feel to them to begin with. An immersive format like IMAX will only heighten the sensation.
Also being released in IMAX is the upcoming Marvel adventure Avengers: Age of Ultron. We already know that Marvel superhero films do not disappoint when it comes to visuals. Releasing the film in a format such as IMAX will only make the experience in the theater that much more enjoyable.
Also being released in IMAX under the new agreement is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Maleficent, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Tomorrowland.
In the press release, Alan Bergman, President of Walt Disney Studios, spoke of his excitement about the extended partnership.
“Disney has enjoyed a terrific ongoing collaboration with IMAX, and we are thrilled to extend this relationship with a collection of exciting, highly anticipated cinematic events that are perfect for the immersive IMAX format.”
While there is a part of me that always expected to see films like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy in IMAX, I must say that I am particularly excited about Star Wars: Episode VII. The film itself will breathe new life into the series, and showing the work on such a huge scale can do nothing but expand on the already amazing work.
