Mariners’ Erasmo Ramirez lowers his ERA vs Cubs

The Seattle Mariners took on the Chicago Cubs continued Cactus League play at Cubs Park in Mesa, Arizona today. Starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez took the mound for the visiting Mariners with Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija getting the start for the home team.

Ramirez has been pitching very well so far this Spring, which is very exciting for the Seattle Mariners organization and their fans. They could have themselves a one-two punch with Felix Hernandez at the number one spot and Ramirez right behind him at number two.

Today against the Cubs, Ramirez allowed only four hits while striking out four batters through six innings of work for the visiting team.

It lowered his ERA from 1.42 to 0.96 in four starts, five appearances this Spring during Cactus League play. Seattle is currently second in the division, while the Cubs sit a couple spots below them.

Opposing pitcher Jeff Samardzija surrendered two runs through five and one-third innings. Samardzija hasn’t pitched fairly well during the Spring, but the Opening Day gig has already been handed to him.
