Miraculous things happen when a North Dakota State athletic program plays a team from the Big 12 Conference. Last football season, the football team upset the defending conference Kansas State Wildcats, and on Thursday in the Second Round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament, the 12th-seeded Bison basketball team took care of the fifth-seeded Oklahoma Sooners, 80-75 in overtime.
The champions of the Summit Conference got a huge effort from everyone involved to pull this off, but no one came up bigger than Lawrence Alexander, who finished the night with 28 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
They maintained the lead for a good portion of the game, but this young, talented Sooners team fought back hard to make it a back-and-forth affair, even forcing the overtime period.
However, in the extra five minutes, the Bison never wavered once, hit all the shots they needed to, took care of the ball and walked away with the win–which is also the first tournament win in school history.
With the win now, the Bison move on to play Saturday against the winner of San Diego State and New Mexico State, which will tip off shortly.
