The San Francisco 49ers traded a late round draft pick for former first-round pick Blaine Gabbert this month but even with Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick on roster, Jim Harbaugh isn’t done considering more quarterbacks. While no veterans seem likely to be added, the NFL Draft may produce another star for the 49ers and that has the team scouting two quarterbacks in particular.
According to Matthew Barrows from the Sacramento Bee, the Niners are scouting San Jose State quarterbacks David Fales and Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas.
The 49ers had their sights set on draft-worthy quarterbacks Wednesday as coach Jim Harbaugh flew across the country to watch Virginia Tech’s Logan Thomas while the team’s quarterbacks coach stayed closer to home for David Fales’ workout.
Harbaugh knows his quarterbacks and that means Thomas or Fales could become great backups that the Niners can deal for profit. Like last year, the 49ers are spoiled with a plethora of picks, which means like how they went out and got a guy like Marcus Lattimore, the Niners can get a guy like Fales or Thomas and get even deeper on their roster than they have been in the past.
