Video: Blake Wheeler's OT Goal Keeps Winnipeg Alive

The Winnipeg Jets are in the midst of a tight playoff race in the NHL’s Western Conference with Phoenix, Dallas and Vancouver. They’re a team that has struggled a bit recently, and needed to start turning things around before it got too late to climb back.

Enter Blake Wheeler.

With the Jets tied against the Colorado Avalanche in overtime, Wheeler made sure that the Jets weren’t leaving with anything less than two points, even if it meant doing it all by himself.

Less than two minutes into OT, Wheeler received an entry pass into the Colorado zone. He then proceeded to hold onto the puck and skate around all four of the Avalanche players until they, and goaltender Reto Berra, were out of position enough to give him an open lane to shoot at. The result was a dramatic OT winner that keeps the Jets alive in the race for the second wild card spot.

With 73 points in 71 games, Winnipeg trails Phoenix by just four points. Unfortunately, the Jets have played two more games than the Coyotes which puts them in a tough situation. They are going to need plenty more victories like last night in order to stay alive. But hey, stranger things have happen.
