March Madness 2014: Duke fan caught cheering for Mercer (Video)

With a hat tip to Busted Coverage, here we have an alleged Duke fan caught doing the unthinkable – celebrating for Mercer?

Yep, during Mercer’s shocking victory over the Duke Blue Devils on Friday afternoon, a Duke ‘fan’ sitting near the court was seen clapping as the Bears extended their lead late in the second half.

With Duke playing the fouling game hoping to extend the game, Mercer was sent to the free throw line (where they were relatively clutch) and knocked down the vast majority of their attempts at the stripe to fend off the potential Duke comeback.

After Mercer had connected on one of their late free throw attempts, the CBS camera panned away and showed clips of the Mercer bench clapping for their teammate. As the camera moved down the bench, behind the team was a man standing in a Duke hat and t-shirt, clapping away.

I’m still trying to think of a logical reason behind this – perhaps he was clapping in effort to inspire his Blue Devils. But that just looked weird.
