Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. casts Patton Oswalt in guest role

Another major name has been added to the cast of the so-so ABC show Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for this season. According to Marvel’s official website, the series has reached out and cast comedian and noted comic book nerd Patton Oswalt in a guest role this season.

It’s unclear how long Oswalt’s stay on the show will be, but the studio has announced he’ll be playing the role of Agent Eric Koenig.

Per Marvel’s official site:

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has recruited yet another special guest star with fan-favorite actor/comedian Patton Oswalt, who will join the cast as Agent Eric Koenig in an upcoming episode of the hit series.

It’s an interesting move as the show seems to be leaning more and more on big names and cameos than they are anything else. The show’s quality dipped notably after a solid start in the ratings game and that cast doubt over the future of the series.

Still, the show has a lot of potential and adding big name guest stars can’t be all that bad. Bill Paxton was recently announced as joining the cast in an extended guest role and we can fully expect to see more crossover with characters from the movies.

But the show had best balance the number of guest stars they have with a high quality of writing, or there won’t be a show to cast guests stars on for much longer.
