Mayberry Jr., was brought back to the organization over the winter for $1.5 million when some expected him to be non-tendered. With this news getting out to the rest of the league, one team that could be targeting Mayberry could be the Detroit Tigers.
The Tigers are currently looking to fill two key positions on their roster. They’re looking for a temporary replacement at shortstop and someone to fill in at left field for Andy Dirks. Dirks underwent back surgery and is supposed to be out of action for at least 12 weeks, so the team would like to bring someone in who could help carry some of the workload.
Mayberry hit .245/.304/.430 across the line with 46 home runs and 148 RBI’s in 1130 career at-bats in five years with the Philadelphia Phillies.
He made his Major League debut with the franchise back on May 23rd, 2009.
