Rangers' Yu Darvish scratched with stiff neck

At this stage in the game, no matter how minor an injury might seem, it’s major.

Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting that Rangers’ ace Yu Darvish has been scratched from his minor league game start today because of a stiff neck. Darvish said that he just slept funny and will only need two or three days’ rest. He does not believe the injury will keep him from making his Opening Day start against the Phillies.

Darvish was scheduled to throw 90 pitches to prepare for the opener on March 31st, but has also said that he has worked on everything he could possibly have wanted to work on this Spring. The Rangers open the season at home against Cliff Lee and the Phillies.

On a rotation that has already suffered injuries and setbacks to Matt Harrison and Derek Holland, is waiting to see how Colby Lewis will shape up in rehab, and with Alexi Ogando underperforming, the Rangers can ill afford another blow to their pitching staff.
