Buzz Williams hired as Virginia Tech Hokies basketball coach

Buzz Williams has been the men’s basketball coach at Marquette since 2008, but his time with the Golden Eagles has reportedly come to an end as Pat Forde is reporting Williams is set to accept the head coaching position with the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Marquette missed the NCAA tournament for the first time in Williams’ six years where they went to the Elite Eight after winning the Big East Conference title and have won at least 22 games prior to this year’s 17-11 record.

Virginia Tech fired men’s basketball coach James Johnson on Monday after two dreadful seasons. Johnson was 22-41 since he replaced the fired Seth Greenberg and was 6-30 in the ACC, including a 2-16 ACC record this season.

For his career, which includes one season at New Orleans, Williams has a 153-82 record.
