After the overhaul which included cutting former first-round draft pick Brandon Weeden and journeyman Jason Campbell, the Cleveland Browns are more than certainly in the market for a quarterback in the upcoming 2014 NFL Draft. Last week, according to ESPNCleveland, new GM Ray Farmer took it upon himself to meet with one of the top prospects in the bunch, Blake Bortles, at his Pro Day last week.
Only GM Ray Farmer and scouts attended Bortles’ pro day workout in Orlando, FL, on Wednesday. The workout was snubbed by coach Mike Pettine, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains – same as Bridgewater’s.
But the one difference was that Farmer reportedly had private time with Bortles prior to the workout. There was no report of Farmer meeting with Bridgewater.
With the fourth selection in the draft coming up, the Browns have been said to be seeking to go a few ways, and quarterback is one of them. After Teddy Bridgewater failed to impress in his Pro Day, Bortles capitalized on that by looking outstanding in his.
So, when you couple that performance with the private talk he had with Farmer prior to taking the field–Cleveland may have their new man under center for the future.
