New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford is being hailed as a hero after visiting leukemia patient LeRoy Cruz after his wife, Mary, reached out to several Giants players via Twitter.

Weatherford posted this picture to his Instagram page with the caption, “Spending the afternoon with Leroy Cruz was a life changing experience. He is only 24 years old, fighting Leukemia. He has such an inspiring attitude about defeating this disease. He is in the fight of his life. He loves the New York Giants, and said,”the way New York Giants never quit when they were playing the 18-0 Patriots in Super Bowl 42 is the way He will never quit until he beats Leukemia!” I am blown away. God bless you in your fight.”

Weatherford didn’t stop with his visit to the hospital to meet and chat with Leroy, but he also got his teammate, Victor Cruz, to send Leroy a signed jersey.

The caption read, There’s a New York Giant superstar that you might know, @TeamVic sends his support to your family @leroycruz89 We are all rooting for you!!! #NYG #PRAY4LEROY

I will never get tired of seeing stories like this where professional athletes take a few hours out of their days to visit with those who are going through an extremely difficult battle. I wish we could have a story like this in the news on a daily basis.
