March Madness 2014: Michigan advances to Sweet 16 with 79-65 win over Texas

The quest of the Michigan Wolverines to get back to the national championship game will continue on as they were able to easily defeat the Texas Longhorns on Saturday in their Third Round Midwest Region match up, 79-65.

Michigan was hot early on, and that momentum carried throughout most of the game, and once again their star, Nik Stauskas showed up to help his team advance to yet another Sweet 16.

On the afternoon, Stauskas finished with 17 points and eight assists, including going 4-of-9 from beyond the three-point line. When this young man is on, he sets the tone for the rest of the Wolverines team, and that was on full display Saturday as he and his squad had no problem dealing with a good Texas team.

The Longhorns did try to make a comeback late in the second half, cutting the lead to five at one point, but as soon as it hit that point, Michigan turned it back on and avoided the big letdown.

Now, the runners-up from last season will move on to try and claim themselves another regional title as they set out to finish what they couldn’t last season.
