The Philadelphia Eagles will not be bringing Michael Vick back in 2014, as he’s officially signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets. But with the Jets solving their quarterback problems, the Eagles still have some questions at the position and they pertain to the backup role.

Vick was the backup quarterback to Nick Foles in 2013, but with him gone it appears that former USC Trojans star Matt Barkley is in a position to win the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.

As Mosher points out, there will be an open competition for the No. 2 spot on the roster, but it’s unclear who the Eagles can bring in. Mark Sanchez will want a chance to start and beyond him there is a steep drop off — which in of itself is saying a lot.

Josh Freeman could be an option as well, but it’s looking like Barkley just needs to stay sharp and the backup role is his.
